cherry pickin' & ponds

Ahhhhh. Summertime in Spokane. We certainly enjoyed our month long stay! We got started off right picking 170 pound of cherries with our friend Patricia. We split the spoil and then got working on sorting (Yes, sorting: looking at each cherry individually as the folks at the orchard had discovered there were worms in their cherries that day!). We then pitted and dehydrated for several hours and had dried deliciousness when we were done!

A few days later we headed west and had a visit at the Penfeilds. Thank goodness they have a pond and a community pool, it was around 100 degrees and we stayed cool while getting in a great visit with them all!

Hard working cherry pitting children.

Sorting pro!

This guy put in the longest time sorting.

Grandpa's famous sausages. Yum!

The family doll house. This thing is amazing!

The Berry's and Penfields, thanks so much for a wonderful day!

GG and her California great grand kids. : )

Heard you were just down the road from us for a day of your stay. :) We LOVE dried apples, and do lots every year, but dried cherries sound really yummy! We might just have to try that out some time. Methinks its a bit more work. :)

Oh, all that sorting and pitting makes me tired just reading about it. BUT--there is nothing quite like home dried cherries. Plus, getting to share the work with G & G makes it lots more fun.

Remind me to send you my dried cherry/chocolate chip cookie recipe...just to maximize the health benefits of the fruit. :-)
